Theme Statement

My theme is simplicity with flare. I chose this because all my projects are simple and the color and details i added to them gave them flare.

Theme essay blog, outline- Simplicity

So far my theme is smiplicity. I am currently making a chart to further and strengthen my word choice. All of my projects are able to be used in some way. A decoration, change bowl, cup, plate, candle plate, and so on. The colors are pretty simple too, but the colors get more experimental towards the end of the semester. That is why I am making a pie chart of the different words I can use, or If I should even go with a different theme.

Intro: I'm going to be talking about my projects and how they are simple, and then with glaze have flare or their own touch. Each project is way better then any one I made last year, but they all have the same sorta shape, just more perfected and or bigger.
statement: With one simply bowl, you can glaze it and make it a totally different bowl. It will have more character. Character being depth, size, and like it is a dark piece of art or showy.

1. What i've made.
I've many projects, a tall vase, more like a cup.
-brown, with clear, that looks like white
    7 bowls.
      - all are different shapes and sizes. also different colors.
   A cup
-just clear glaze, with black drip marks.
   Set of 3
-roughly same "pot" shape, and same colors, being matte green and clear.
   2 plates
-roughly same shape too. but their colors are very different.
   Lidded
      - not the best, but it is shadow green with blue splatters
   Two piece
-Shadow green, with black drips and clear.
   Pomegranate

      - white, and looks pretty close to a real one.

2. Form- all my projects have a basic form for what they are. Such as the bowl, all rounded and look appealing from the top. Each are a bit different in their                     roundness or how wide the base is.
Glaze- Each glaze is different too, but they are all thought out and picked according to what the project is and what glazes are actually out. I usually experiment, but with the more natural, or normal ones.
Process- Each project is made on the wheel. The ones that are done with some hand made things are the cup (the handle) and my hand and wheel ( the birds nest and rings on the bottom. after trimming the base and the lip and making it look nice. let it dry for a day or two, then put a foot ring on it. then after it dry's for a couple more days it will go on the bisque shelf. after the shelf it goes in the kiln. it then comes out and is hard and pink. this is when you glaze the project. after the glaze is dry it gets put in the kiln again, that is when the glazes finalizes and becomes the actual color and glossy, or matte. then you are done.

3.Relation to theme
My theme being simplicity with flare so far.
- scale
Simple things are all different yet simple in their own ways.
-Difference
The colors are all pretty simple colors, the way I use them though make the project more exciting and appeasing to the eye. none of them are just one solid color.

Essay Rough Draft

Wondering what class I should take my second semester my junior year my cousin told me time after time to take ceramics. I finally gave in. I Took it up and quickly learned it was very hard and asked my self, why did I take this again? Well I took it because I actually love it. It is a different kind of challenge, a challenge I can put upon myself. It is not physically straining and if I don't let it get to me, mentally. This challenge has made me want to strive to make something better each day I throw. I have never sat down and actually thought what would I consider my "style" to be, so the last thing I would do with my projects is to see what they all have in common. Projects are made though usually with some style of the creator. As I was contemplating on this subject I was told You are unique, but simple and out spoken. I speak my mind, so I thought well I guess I do but how does this pertain to my projects, well flare came to mind. Flare is just a little bit of pow. A light bulb went off, that is it. simplicity with flare. Just one word wouldn't fit this. It is very easy to see this each project.
First I have made many projects this semester so far. Most of them have been made with the thought of being graded and to a set goal of what to make, from the teacher. I have made to many to state here but my first one was a "tall from" and it was about 4 inches tall. It is brown with clear on the top, but the clear turned out milky, giving a white feel on top of the brown. The brown is also more of a matte too. The last project I have totally finished is my two piece and is about 9 inches, more then double my first one. This one was a rather difficult one, but fun. It is a bowl and a pedestal attached. First I made the bowl and then the pedestal. The glazes are a bit more experimental then the first too. First I used shadow green on 3/4th s of the project. The other 1/4th is clear. The shadow green then drips on the clear, and then on top is black, dripping on the clear too. It gives it a little more texture, along with the detail in the pedestal base. As you can tell, my projects have improved over the course of the class. Between those projects I have a set of three shaped like pots, and are matte green and clear. I have also made, a cup, two plates, 7 different kinds of bowls, (shapes and color) a lidded project, and a wheel thrown pomegranate. The top of it is made by hand though.
Now, how the projects are made is important. All of my projects are made on the wheel. Each one is centered, in about 20 minutes, because it takes me forever to do. Then I pull up and shape each project. Then I use a tool called "the 7 tool" and trim the base, and use a pin tool to make the top even. Then make the last touches on it. Each project is then strung on the bottom and put in the cupboard for a day or two. When dry enough, but still moist, you can foot the bottom. My foots vary in width. After that they are put in my locker to dry for about a week. After they are bone dry, or look white, they are ready to put on the bisque shelf. They are then put in there for a day, and then are pink when out. When they are bisque'd they are ready to be glazed. This is when some thinking comes into play more creativity may come out, depending on how much time I have. The colors I have used have been more natural colors, but it is how I use them that make them more unique.

Lastly, how these projects pertain to my theme. My theme being simplicity with flare. They are all simple shapes and made simply, on the wheel. I have added a few things on a couple to make them not so simple, but they are still simple. These things being a handle, or a coil. On my most recent one I have put a little birds nest. It is very little that it does not take away from the simple bowl. All of my projects are obviously different, but they are all simple. The colors I have used are simple colors too, but the way I have used them give the flare I talk about. Each one I have used multiple colors on each project, and it is how I have used them, such as dripped, splattered or half one color and or half another. I have put a flower on a project too. This is how my projects fit into my theme.
